How to enrol

  • I'm enrolling at UWA for the first time

    As a new coursework student, there are a few steps to work through the first time you enrol. Head to UniStart to begin.

    As a new research student enrolling for the first time, activate your UniID, log in to studentConnect, click 'COURSE DETAILS' then 'Online enrolment' then 'Begin online enrolment' and follow the process.

  • I'm re-enrolling for next year or summer school

    Re-enrolments for 2025 open on 4 November 2024 and close on 20 January 2025.

    You'll be able to add units for next year on studentConnect from 4 November 2024. Check out the Handbook for unit offerings, including?Summer School units.

    If you have any trouble re-enrolling or logging into studentConnect, email us via askUWA, call 6488 3235, or visit your Student Advising Office.

    If you're on Approved Leave in Semester 1 2025, enrolment for Semester 2 will open 1 May 2025 to 26 July 2025.

    Re-enrolment dates are subject to change. Please check this website and your UWA student email account for updates and reminder notices.


  • Help! I missed the re-enrolment deadline

    You'll be able to enrol for Semester 1 once you've paid your $200 late fee. When you log in to studentConnect and select Course Details and Online Enrolment, there will be information about the late fee and a link to make the payment.?

  • Semester 2 enrolment

    Once you enrol for Semester 1 you can add or change your Semester 2 enrolment at any time (up until the end of Week 1). If you miss Semester 1 enrolment, Semester 2 enrolments open 1 May 2025 and close 26 July 2025. If you miss Semester 2 enrolment, contact your?Student Advising Office.

  • I'm a research student

    If you are a continuing Higher Degree by Research (HDR) student enrolled in a course administered by the Graduate Research School (GRS),you will be automatically re-enrolled for the next academic year, provided you meet all the below requirements. i.e., you have:

    • all your Milestones and Goals [PDF 665KB] up to date
    • no outstanding debts to the University
    • cleared all encumbrances
    • You will not be re-enrolled if you do not meet the above requirements.

      HDR candidates with overdue milestones are deemed to have made unsatisfactory progress and at risk of their enrolment and/or scholarship suspended or cancelled.

      As a new research student enrolling for the first time, activate your UniID, log in to studentConnect, click 'COURSE DETAILS' then 'Online enrolment' then 'Begin online enrolment' and follow the process.

  • I'm an incoming exchange or study abroad student

    New applications for 2025 are open via UWA Apply. You'll receive an email with your approved units and instructions for enrolling on studentConnect. If you have any queries or are unable to log in, contact the Global Learning Office.

    Once you receive an email from UWA's Global Learning Office, you'll be able to enrol in your approved units on studentConnect. Contact the Global Learning Office if you need to make any changes to your enrolment or withdraw.

  • I'm an incoming cross-institutional student

    To apply to study cross-institutionally at UWA, visit How to apply, sign up (or log in) then submit an application online.

    As part of an application, you will be required to provide an original or full colour scan of the following documents:

    • Official Academic Transcript/s (from your home institution). A Faculty Record, eRecord or unofficial record is not sufficient. If your transcript does not show your current enrolment for the year, please provide an additional official document. E.g. Statement of Enrolment.? ? ??
    • Proof of Citizenship/Residency/Identity (Passport, Birth Certificate or Citizenship Certificate, and visa grant notice (if applicable)). A driver's licence is not sufficient.
    • Formal approval from your home university.

    Please note: If you plan to apply but do not have all the required documents, please submit your application by the deadline with the documentation you do have. Email us?to let us know you have applied and that you are in the process of obtaining the missing documentation.

    Application periods

    Your application and required documents must be submitted by the following dates. We are unable to accept applications after the late application period.

    Semester 1, 2025: 1 November 2024 – 20 January 2025

    Semester 2, 2025: 1 May 2025 – 30 June 2025

    Non-standard teaching periods: Applications for units taught in non-standard teaching periods?will normally be accepted up until 10 University working days prior to the start date of the teaching period.

    Late applications period

    Late applications will incur a late fee of $100.

    Semester 1, 2025: 21 January 2025 – 10 February 2025

    Semester 2, 2025: 1 July 2025 – 7 July 2025

    You'll receive an email with your approved units and instructions for enrolling on?studentConnect. If you have any queries or are unable to log in, contact the Enrolments team via?askUWA.

  • Applying for credit or advanced standing

    If you've studied another course at UWA or at another university, you may wish to apply for credit (or advanced standing) towards your current course. To apply, complete the credit transfer/Advanced Standing form?and submit it to your Student Advising Office?via askUWA?or in person.

    If you're applying for credit from another university, attach a full colour scan of your official transcript together with your completed form.

    There are some rules around how much credit you can be awarded and how it is awarded. For more information, view the University Policy on: Credit Transfer, advanced standing and recognition of prior learning.

  • I want to study a unit at another University

    If you'd like to study a unit (or units) at another University for credit towards your UWA course, you can apply for cross-institutional study. You'll need approval from your Student Advising Office, and the host university.?

    Steps at UWA:

    1. Complete the UWA Students - Application for Cross-institutional Enrolment form [PDF 521KB].
    2. Obtain unit outline(s) for the units you wish to study from your host university.
    3. Email your Student Advising Office explaining why you're applying to study the units as part of your course and attach your completed form and unit outline(s).
    4. If approved by your Student Advising Office, enrol in your UWA ENRL unit(s) via a Change of Enrolment form (available from your Student Advising Office). ENRL units are worth zero credit points until you complete the unit(s).
    5. When you complete your unit(s), provide your Student Advising Office with an official transcript from your host university, so they can update your record.

    Steps at host university:

    1. Check the application process. You may need to complete a form provide required documents, including:?

    2. Enrol in the units as per the host university instructions.

    Please note: UWA will not arrange your enrolment at the host university.? This is your responsibility.

    Please note, if this is your final semester you may not be able to graduate at the next end-of-semester graduation ceremony (July and December). You must provide UWA with your official formal academic record from the host university with finalised grades by the 'Course Requirements Completed' deadline advised by UWA Graduations.

How to change my enrolment

  • I want to add a unit

    If you want to add more units, decide one of your units isn't for you or need to make a change to your study plan, you can do this on studentConnect?before the end of the first week of semester, or trimester or particular non-standard teaching period. You can only be enrolled in 24 credit points per semester, so you may need to withdraw from a unit before you're able to add a new one. If it's after the first week of semester and you would like to add a unit, submit a Special Approval Form?to your Student Advising Office.

  • I want to withdraw from a unit

    Withdrawing from a unit will be a different process at different times in semester/trimester/non-standard teaching period and will have different consequences. If you'd like to discuss your study plan before withdrawing, contact your Student Advising Office.

    To not have it show on my formal record

    For semester and trimester units, you need to withdraw on studentConnect before the end of Week 3 of semester.?Go to 'Course Details' and 'Units' to withdraw from your unit. For units in non-standard teaching periods, you need to withdraw on studentConnect 21 days from the official start of the teaching date or the census date for the teaching period, whichever is earlier (view Important dates?or?Non-standard teaching periods).

    Before the Census date

    You can withdraw on studentConnect. Your unit will appear on your formal academic record with a WD grade, however there is no financial or academic impact. To withdraw from a unit, go to 'Course Details', 'Online enrolment',? 'Begin online enrolment', 'Units' then select 'Discontinue'.

    Before the academic withdrawal date

    You can withdraw via a Change of Enrolment form by contacting your Student Advising Office. Your unit will appear on your formal academic record with a WD grade. You will remain liable for the unit fees, however there is no academic impact.

    Before the end of the teaching period

    You can withdraw via a Change of Enrolment form by contacting your Student Advising Office. Your unit will appear on your formal academic record with an FN (Failure due to Non-completion) grade and mark of '0'. You will remain liable for the unit fees and the FN will count towards your WAM and GPA as a fail grade (equivalent to zero).?

    Check out the Important dates?and Teaching period dates?for your units. If you missed one of the deadlines and are withdrawing due to special circumstances, you may be eligible for Exceptional Variation of Assessment. You should talk to your Student Advising Office?or one of the support services?on campus.

  • International students

    If you're studying on a student visa, it's important to contact the International Student Support team?before you withdraw from any units. They'll be able to discuss different options with you, advise you on how it may impact your visa, and help you connect with the right support services on campus.

  • Incoming exchange or Study Abroad students

    If you'd like to change your enrolment in unit/s, contact the?Global Learning Office?to obtain a Change of Enrolment form. If the unit you want to add hasn't been approved by your home university, you may also need home university approval, before making the change.

  • INCOMING Cross-institutional students

    To withdraw from a unit or add a unit that was approved as part of your application, email us via askUWA for a Change of Enrolment form. To add a unit that hasn't been approved by UWA or your home university, you'll need to complete a new application and receive approval from your home university and UWA.

  • I want to transfer campuses within UWA

    If you're a current UWA student and are interested in transferring from Albany to Perth or Perth to Albany to complete a unit, a semester or the remainder of your course, contact your Student Advising Office?to discuss your options.

  • Outgoing cross-institutional students

    If you wish to withdraw from a unit you're studying at a host university, it's important to follow their withdrawal procedure, and notify your Student Advising Office via email.?There may be financial or academic consequences if you withdraw after the census date, so it's important to speak with UWA and your host university about withdrawing.

How to take time off

You can apply to take Approved Leave from your studies for a semester or a whole year. We'll put you on intermission and keep your student account active while you take a break. Apply for leave on?studentConnect?by selecting 'Course Details' then 'Discontinuation/Approved leave' up until the?academic withdrawal date for the current semester or trimester. If your application for leave is approved, you'll be withdrawn from your units. This can have financial or academic consequences depending on the date you apply. Check 'How to change my enrolment' to see if there are penalties for being withdrawn from your units or contact your Student Advising Office?if you're unsure.

  • I'm an international student

    If you're studying on a student visa, it's important to read the University's Student Enrolment Policy?(PDF 87KB), particularly 4.1.5.?

    If you have any questions, contact the International Student Support team?to discuss your circumstances and eligibility for leave, and the impact it may have on your visa.

  • I'm a medicine, podiatry or dentistry student

    If you're studying an MD, MBBS, DMD or DPM and are considering taking time off your studies, contact the Health and Sciences Student Office?to organise a meeting.

How to withdraw

You can withdraw from your whole course on studentConnect?at any point after commencing your studies (select 'Course Details', then 'Discontinuation/Approved leave') Before you withdraw, we recommend speaking to your Student Advising Office?to discuss other options like Approved Leave, a course transfer or a change of major. When you withdraw from your course, you'll also be withdrawn from your units. This can have a financial or academic penalty, depending on the date you withdraw. Check 'How to change my enrolment' to see if there's a penalty for withdrawing from your units or speak with your Student Advising Office?if you're unsure.

  • I'm an international student

    If you're studying on a student visa, it's important to contact the International Student Support team?to discuss how withdrawing may impact your fees and visa.

  • I'm a research student

    If you are considering withdrawing from your course, contact the Graduate Research School?to discuss other options and the impact of withdrawing on your course and fees.

  • I'm a medicine, podiatry or dentistry student

How to transfer to a new course

?

  • I'm a bachelor's degree student

    If you're studying a bachelor's degree, you can apply for a transfer to another bachelor's degree.

    • Semester 1 applications open 1 October to 10 December
    • Semester 2 applications open 1 May to 30 June

    If you miss the application period, late applications will be accepted with a $100 fee between 11 December 2024 to 10 February 2025 and 1 July to 7 July 2025. The late fee applies regardless of whether you accept an offer.?

    Visit How to apply?and select 'Undergraduate study (a bachelor's degree)' then 'UWA student transferring bachelor degrees' for instructions.

    To accept your offer, respond to the email and follow the instructions in the email to enrol in your new degree. If you have any issues applying, email us via askUWA.

  • I'm in a postgraduate course

    If you're studying a postgraduate course and would like to change, you can apply for a new course online through our Apply portal. Visit how to apply to submit your application.

  • I want to get credit for my units

    To have units that you've completed credited towards your new course, fill out an?application for credit transfer/Advanced Standing and submit it to your Student Advising Office.

How to continue on to further study

If you're coming to the end of your course and want to continue your studies, explore your options for honours or a postgraduate coursework or research degree.

If you're not sure if you meet the requirements or would like to discuss your goals before you apply, have a chat with the Careers team, your Student Advising Office?or the Future Students team.

Keeping your personal details up to date

  • Updating your address and contact details

    It's important to keep your contact details up to date, so we can connect with you throughout your studies, including for welfare issues. Log in to studentConnect and go to Personal Details on the left. Here you can update your preferred name, contact and home address, phone number, and emergency contact.

    What's the difference between semester and home address?

    Your semester address is where you're living during semester. Your home address is where you're living during vacation. If you're an international student, your semester address may be UniHall and your home address may be your parents' address in your home country?

    International students

    If you're studying on a student visa, it's important to provide us with a local semester address and contact phone number so we're able to contact you while you're here. It's also important to keep your information up to date so we can update your details with the Department of Home Affairs, which is a requirement of your visa. You are normally required to provide an overseas Home address (outside Australia).?

  • Updating your citizenship

    If your citizenship details have changed, send us a full colour scan of your visa grant notice, new passport, Citizenship Certificate or Birth Certificate via? askUWA using your student email address.

  • Changing your name

    If you've changed your name, send us a full colour scan of your Birth Certificate, Change of Name Certificate or current passport showing your full name via askUWA using your student email address and we'll update your student record and print you a new campus card. Once we update your full legal name on our records, you will need to ensure the name under which your USI is registered is the same.? Please update your full legal name on the Australian government USI website.?

    Changing your name after graduating

    Once you graduate, we can update your name on your student record and provide you with a Statement of Academic Record and a Statement of Qualifications. We can't change the name on your Testamur (Graduation Certificate) or AHEGS.

  • Changing your password

    Unless you have commenced a new course, you will only have access to your UniID for 12 months after completing your course. If your password has expired or you've forgotten it, re-set it on the Self Service Password Reset or Microsoft and Office 365 webpage. If you have any trouble, contact the UWA Library?for help.

  • I am a graduate

    If you're a graduate of the University, you can update your details online by visiting the Alumni how-to page.

Proof of enrolment

I need proof I'm enrolled for Centrelink

You can download a free Statement of Enrolment from studentConnect. (under 'Course Details'). This statement will show your current address (as entered on studentConnect), your course and enrolment load for the year. If you need additional information, consider ordering a Letter of Enrolment (under 'Course Details' then 'Request academic documents'.

I need proof I'm enrolled for Transperth

You can download a free Statement of Enrolment from studentConnect. (under 'Course Details'). This statement will show your name, student ID, current address (as entered on studentConnect), your course and enrolment load for the year. Check that you have entered your SmartRider ID number in studentConnect (under Personal Details) and that this number is correct.

I need proof I'm enrolled and my vacation dates for my employer

You can order a Letter of Enrolment on studentConnect under 'Course Details', then 'Request Academic Documents'. This will confirm your student status, enrolment and official University vacation periods.
